COVID-19 Family Letter

February 24, 2021

Residents, Families and Partners:

Here are our most recent updates regarding COVID in our Community.

We had zero new resident or staff positives in last week’s round of mass testing on February 18.  This week’s mass testing will be on 2/24/2021.  If we again have zero new positive cases, we may be deemed “outbreak free” the end of this month by the health department and will move back to random weekly testing of 25% of staff.

Our third vaccination clinic will be on 2/24/2021 for those residents or staff members that missed their opportunity to be vaccinated. Read more

COVID-19 News

February 4, 2021

Residents, Families and Partners:

Even though we have started the roll out of the vaccine process in our country, state and Community, COVID-19 is and will be an on-going concern throughout this year.  We were informed that one of our employees tested positive for the virus.  This employee had tested negative in previous random testing that we have been doing but was tested again after being exposed to a positive individual outside of work.

This staff member is currently quarantining at home and their return-to-work date will be determined following local health department and CDC guidance. Read more

COVID-19 Virus Update

November 24, 2020

Dear Residents and Families:

As I am sure many of you are aware, the country is experiencing another increase in reported COVID cases.  We have just learned that one of our residents and one of our staff members have recently tested positive for COVID.  Currently, the resident is receiving care outside of the facility, and the staff member is quarantining at home.

Given these two new positive cases, we have taken the following actions to prevent or mitigate the spread of the virus into our community again:

  • We will increase our regular cleaning of common areas and high touch surfaces;
  • Have tested all residents in the facility;
  • Asked residents to quarantine in their rooms until the results of their tests are received; and
  • Suspend all group activities, scenic drives and in-person visitation (with the exception of end-of-life or essential healthcare providers) until we can be assured that the virus is not spreading in the Community.

We will notify residents, their primary care providers and responsible parties immediately about test results, and we will provide a general update about the findings of these tests.

We also will continue:

  • Requiring that all staff wear masks and practice social distancing when in the facility and encourage staff to do so while off duty outside of the facility;
  • Strongly encourage all residents to wear masks when outside of their room and when interacting with others; and
  • Assess and check temperatures of all staff and essential visitors (external healthcare providers, end-of-life visitors) upon entry into the building; and
  • Monitor all staff and residents for any signs and symptoms of the virus and contact resident’s primary healthcare providers and family if there are any changes.

We understand that these restrictions may be harder this week given the Thanksgiving holiday, but we think it is necessary to protect our residents.  We want to work with you to connect with your loved ones this holiday week.  We can:

  • Assist in delivering food plates or care packages;
  • Assist in facilitating Zoom/FaceTime calls; and
  • Schedule Window visits with your loved one.

As is usual, we will notify residents’ primary physicians and designated family members of any changes in their loved one’s condition, whether potentially related to COVID-19 or not.

We will keep you updated as any changes at the facility occur.  Please reach out with questions, concerns, or requests for assistance.

Sincerely,

Joanna Enriquez
Executive Director

COVID-19 Virus Update

August 1, 2020

Dear Residents and Family Members:

As you know from our previous communications, we have tested all staff and residents and we provided the results in our July 10 communication.  We wanted to let you know that we have now tested all staff and residents again on the 28th.  Staff and residents have tested negative for COVID.

The Community will move forward by performing in-house testing of 25% of residents and staff on a weekly basis until the current surge in California has receded in our county. Our Community will notify SBCHD, CCL, residents’ primary physicians, designated family members, and residents regarding any positive findings for residents resulting from this testing. Read more

COVID-19 Virus Update

July 3, 2020

Dear Residents and Family Members:

As promised, we want to continue to provide you updates on Santa Maria Terrace.  In our previous update, we indicated that we had our first employee test positive for the COVID-19 virus.  As part of the local health department guidance, after having a positive finding for an employee or resident in a senior living community, the Community was required to test all residents and staff.  These tests occurred on June 29th, and on that date, no one had reported or were observed displaying any signs or symptoms of COVID.

We received the results of those test late yesterday.  We have learned that two more staff members and 3 residents tested positive for the virus. Read more

Information Regarding Visitation

Dear Residents, Family and Friends:

On March 14, 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services advised of a nationwide restriction on visitation for certain health facilities, due to the coronavirus. Though these restrictions were drafted for skilled nursing facilities, they address risks similar to those posed to other senior living communities. CMS has directed that only health care workers or end-of life visitors be allowed to visit the community during this time. Until further notice, we will follow this direction, and will not permit non-essential visitors. We continue to encourage virtual visitation by phone, FaceTime, Skype, etc. It is important for you to remain connected with your loved one, and we will be happy to work with you to accomplish this in the absence of an in-person visit.
